Despite sizeable Investment and focus, the STEM talent gap is widening. A minimum of 1.3 million jobs will be unfilled by 2020 based on current projections. Employees from all academic disciplines will be tapped to fill some of these positions. In addition, the digital economy mandates that all employees are STEM literate. Through collaboration with ICC, the first Career Readiness course was taught this academic year. By broadening access to career exploration, career readiness and STEM Literacy, taught utilizing skills such as design and computational thinking, UC Davis can help bridge the gap between academic preparation and practical skills aligned with industry needs.
